Cornersmith

Home-made, free-range and local are the buzzwords here, not to mention urban bees. Cornersmith landed on the scene in late 2011 perfectly fitted-out, from the tiled doorway to the elegantly slim tallow wood stools to the beehives on the back shed. Barista James Grant offers Teacraft Teas, rhubarb and rose milkshakes, and a seriously good Mecca Dark Horse (Colombian and Bolivian) caffe latte ($3.50). Don't turn up on a Monday, though, because they close for 'pickling day', when Alex Elliot-Howery pickles everything in sight. Better to come the next day, for a ploughman's plate with the aforesaid pickles. A Marrickville marvel. Bees on the rooftop, pickles on the shelf, bespoke stools at the bar, Mecca's Dark Horse in the Mazzer and a ploughman's on the plank: Cornersmith cannot put a foot wrong.
