Modern Australian$$

This must be the last non-refurbished pub in Surry Hills and you either like the grunge hipster atmosphere and look or you don't. Bistro Morelli offers a small menu, generous servings and helpful service. The $22 Angus sirloin steak with Dutch cream mash was overcooked, while the chicken parmigiana with coleslaw and tomato was uninspired. However the date pudding with 'pub-made' smooth, creamy ice-cream melting on the thick layer of sponge and real figs is a highlight with a bottle of crisp, dry Batlow Premium Cider. There's a $15 roast on Sundays and the 10-hour braised pork belly sounds interesting.
