Don Don

Japanese

It's easy to mistake this hole-in-the-wall Japanese for a zhoozhie Darlo club given the J-pop on the stereo and the queues on Friday and Saturdays nights. But if you prefer your soba sober, Don Don is open on Sundays - a recent development - and healthy, cheap recovery lunches of hand-rolled sushi cones, udon noodle soup and tea are the done thing. (And a dash of Japanese pepper will clear the head, guaranteed.) 'Don' means rice-bowl meal: try the saucy grilled eel (unadon) or beef curry, though the salmon sashimi is a bargain at $9.50 for eight pieces of firm, fresh fish. Is Don Don. Is good!
