Chinatown's Double Happiness is one of those laneway bars that likes to mess with your mind. Just finding the joint is a quest. Here's a hint - look for the streetside table revellers. The interior is like a forgotten opium den, its brick walls hung with old silk banners and propaganda posters. Tiny bamboo tables dot the room and a miniature Chairman Mao statue watches over all. The red backlit bar shelves are well stocked with spirits and the mixologists whisk up a mean cocktail (try the lychee-based Great Leap Forward) or you can plump for a huge bottle of Tsingtao beer. Intricate wood-panelled doors lead to perhaps the world's smallest courtyard.
