East Village Hotel

$$$

East Village is everything a local should be, and in terms of the food, so much more. Superior kids’ fare, Sunday roast platters, gourmet pizzas and specials (think pie and pint deals and half-price mussels) are the least of it. Entrees like the pancetta-topped Hervey Bay scallops sparkle and the mains deliver. Highlights include a 12-hour beef ‘bourguignon’ short rib, the brioche-bunned wagyu burger and the pappardelle – flavour soaked, though short on mushrooms. Minor quibbles aside, this gourmand-friendlypub is an all-round standout. ‘What type of red would you like with that main?’ is not a question too many barmen ask in this town.
