El Loco is as hot as any restaurant in Sydney can get without the fire brigade being called in, and the hype is justified because chef Dan 'can-do-no-wrong' Hong has done a bit of a number on conventional Mexican. Why taco with mushy beans when you can carne asada? This piquant bundle of lemongrass beef with salsa verde redefines Mexican, with a little nod to Hong's Vietnamese heritage. The uber-cool crowd always leaves some skinny-jean room for two truly epic offerings that no visit is complete without: the Excelsior hot dog (grilled pork and pickled jalapeno suffocating in a mass of mayo and cheese) and the Al Pastor pork 'torta' sandwich.
