Italian$$

What happened when the cool Melbourne-style enoteca met the boisterous Sydney-style pizzeria? They moved to the North Shore and lucky Neutral Bay locals drank dolcetto with their capricciosa happily ever after. Melbourne designer Chris Connell's stark, minimalist terracotta and black steel fit-out was hip before its time, but it still appeals as fresh and comfortable. Choose the long Carrara marble bar for casual drinking and grazing, or dine more intimately at a banquette or table. If you prefer your cornicione (look it up) puffy, tender, blistered and smoky, with crushed tomato and tender mozzarella di bufala pooling in the centre, the wood-fired margherita here is a benchmark. If you don't have a pizza fixation, the menu also offers a quality regional Italian tour. Try juicy rosemary-infused porchetta, fresh scallops with grilled asparagus on a perfect saffron sauce, house-made tonnarelli pasta with ragu and a luscious pear tart. Ottimo!
