This standalone sandstone cottage shines like a warm, glowing beacon on the Old Hume Highway, humming with the gentle buzz of locals and out-of-towners. Inside it’s all soft carpets and white linen, with gracious staff to steer you confidently through an always-changing, garden-influenced menu with both familiar and inventive touches. Sweet crab nestles in a puck of linguine, its delicate texture accentuated by beurre blanc, while sesame-crusted alpaca tataki (yes, alpaca) is paired with watermelon, kaffir lime cream and crunchy puffs of wild rice. Have faith, it works. Veal filet mignon, nicely cooked and simply presented, is almost outshone by its top hat of pumpkin tortellini, fat with velvety orange centres. ‘Donut-encased creme brulee’ with a disc of amber toffee and tart pomegranate sorbet is a fireworks finish to a standout dining experience.

And ... Ask about the new E2 event space in a heritage cellar, opposite.
