It's hard to tell which is more eclectic - the crowd or the fitout. Fad Gallery is rock'n'roll meets art, with wingback chairs, loads of velvet and wooden tables whose scars hint at wild nights gone by. Hidden in an alley in Chinatown, this hangout is all about the art, so don't expect highfalutin' cocktails or even grunge chic. But the welcome's warm, the beer is cold and the wines by the glass are priced just right for impoverished creatives. There's no bar menu but you won't starve for conversation because Fad leads a triple life as a live music venue and gallery space, with changing exhibitions of paintings, photographs and other media.
