Fat Panda

Japanese$$

This sleek, modern place with sparkly stone-topped tables is all things Japanese to all people. There’s a sushi train down the back, a teppanyaki grill and a varied a la carte menu. Salmon sashimi is generous in its thick, supple slices and is, mercifully, only lightly chilled. Tempura vegetables are crisp and light with surprise inclusions such as green beans and mini corn. Agedashi tofu is delicately savoury with a good quantity of waving bonito shavings, while soft-shell crab salad with spicy mayo and long shredded root veg is a triumph all round. The service is delightful, too.
