Federal Hotel

Contemporary$$$

The original chef is back in the bistro and it shows. On a winter night heaters take the chill off the deck, but it’s the food that warms the soul. The blackboard menu gets the juices flowing and the service is as crisp as the chips. Salt-and pepper whole local leather jacket with king prawns is perfectly cooked, and the pork ribs in barbecue sauce are a sticky treat. An excellent shiraz puts a glow in the cheeks, while espresso and chocolate torte are served inside in front of the open fire. Live acoustic music – jazz in the bistro on Wednesdays – adds to the mellow mood. Diners are free to move into the lounge adjoining the bar with coffee. Magic.
