Italian$$

It's not often you get the chance to take your hessian bag to a restaurant and leave with your weekly shop of quality produce, but at this perennial north shore favourite, it's the norm. Wander on past the fresh veg, smallgoods and temperature-controlled cheese room into a boisterous dining space that opens up to embrace the sunlight shining outside. Service is frenetic but functional as streams of locals who know a thing or two about value for money happily wait for an honest Italian fix. Giant squares of pumpkin-stuffed ravioli shelter beneath shavings of parmesan, boosted by a rich and buttery truffle sauce, while a traditional white (garlic and mozzarella) pizza is nicely thin and crisp. Shoestring strips of calamari and zucchini deep fried to a light crunch work a treat with a zingy, creamy limoncello mayo. Portions are very generous, but you can always get a silky takeaway gelato, and walk it off on the way home.
