Gas Eatery & Supplies

Contemporary

Middle Eastern and Spanish dishes rotate daily at this cosy cafe close to South Melbourne Market. Service can be a little strained when busy, but one thing Gas does well is variety. Most of the oft-changing lunch menu is written up on the blackboard and beckons from behind the great glass display cabinet. Simple fare such as a roast-beef flatbread sandwich or chicken fritters with chickpeas, carrots and raisins are good lunch-break pick-me-ups. The clear favourite at breakfast is Middle Eastern eggs baked in a tomato stew with haloumi, but who could go past salted caramel and banana porridge.
