Gasometer

Pub dining$$

Who says gluttony should be confined to carnivores? The austere stone interior of this former Irish pub now hosts a young crew, with a playful American diner-style menu. Almost every hearty, artery-clogging offering comes with a vegan/vego alternative- thus the pulled pork sandwich is either free-range shoulder or curiously meat-like jackfruit, both tangily seasoned in bourbon and Coke. Then there's the classic dark-rye reuben with sauerkraut and 'house-made vegan smoked pastrami'. Mains come with two big sides, including the best mac 'n' cheese this side of the Pacific. Those looking for a quiet, speedily served meal may be disappointed. The Gaso is a rock 'n' roll pub and the place is rammed every weekend.
