Contemporary

Gaston is the type of place where it takes only one visit to feel like a local. Spilling out to the open air, its laidback vibe complements a menu that draws crowds back time and again. At breakfast, people-watching makes a great entree to offerings such as an omelette made with local spanner crab, just one of the many tempting seafood dishes available across all-day dining. Lunch and dinner share a menu, and it's worth a double visit to switch between the classic and creative; from a zesty orange and dill-cured Tasmanian salmon to duck leg served karaage style. Another popular option is to order from the 'small things' section, listed on chalkboards around the restaurant. They include red braised duck spring rolls that are so good they almost justify their own visit. Finally, to finish, it's hard to look past the baked lemon tart or a frozen daiquiri from the cocktail list. Walk it all off along Main Beach, just across the road.
