Spanish

Complimentary house-baked bread kicks off dinner with generosity and a warm welcome at Granada. On busy nights, the room gets rowdy, whether sitting in the heart of the moody, glass-walled dining room or propped on stools at the beautifully tiled bar. Staff are primed with sound wine and menu knowledge, and their suggestions prove to be spot-on. Tapas of goat's cheese croquette and empanadilla filled with saucy braised beef cheek get things rolling. Spice them up with the house hot sauce - there's a bottle on every table. Dishes to covet are albondigas; moist pork and veal meatballs rolling in rich tomato sauce and the star of the night, a Mexican impostor, bistec a la Mexicana, a dive-in-and-share fiesta of fall-apart, charred rib fillet, guacamole, black beans and house-made earthy corn tortillas. Desserts stay on the traditional Spanish path, and include a far from ordinary sweet rice pudding scattered with toasted almonds and Pedro Ximenez plumped sultanas.
