Italian

Old school green formica tables bordered with stainless steel strips and '50s milk bar chairs under retro pendent lights fill the brick-painted room, which is dominated by a floor-to-ceiling dark wood bar in one corner of this family-run trattoria. The menu is old school too (in a good way) with mains arriving home style - well sauced and with accompanying vegetables. Veal saltimbocca is salty and sagey; tender and impossibly hot cannelloni of prawns and bug meat comes with a bubbling bechamel subtle enough to allow the delicate flavour of the seafood to shine. Service is polished and friendly, as you would expect, but still has that air of formality common trattorias all over Italy. There's a large blackboard of daily specials including desserts but the crespelle di arancia (orange crepes) work within the bygone theme and authentic flavour.
