Green Refectory

Cafe

Once you’ve navigated through hordes of hungry students and nabbed an old wooden table, the first thing you’ll notice are huge pyramids of muffins and cakes: towering passionfruit sponge, slabs of wobbly vanilla slice and sweet pies generously filled with scented fruit. In the savouries cabinet, individual frittatas burst with spinach and sweet potato, and pies with chicken and leek. At the salad bar, tender calamari is tumbled with tangy dressed greens. Made-to-order items like beef lasagne and a ‘breakfast stack’ of poached egg and potato hash may lack finesse, but house-made pastries and ridiculously cheap prices keep the place perpeptually pumping.
