Gundaroo Colonial Inn

13/20

Contemporary$$

This recently renovated establishment has blink-and-you'll-miss-them opening hours but exceptionally friendly staff. Specials tend towards Asian or Italian flavours - prawn and chorizo gnocchi sit next to Thai beef salad in a mostly canonical pub-grub roster. Entrees include oysters (kilpatrick or florentine) and various prawn dishes (chilli, garlic, satay) but the mains are mostly meat, mostly grilled. The marinated kangaroo fillets were precisely caramelised, and the chicken parmigiana is one of the better examples we've seen. The pub subscribes to a mount-it-on-the-wall design ethos, so there's plenty to see while you ponder the list of local wines.
