Hairy Canary

The decor is in need of a little love but Hairy Canary's shabbiness adds to the cool, lived-in vibe of this compact city bar. Hairy's location makes it a perfect place for a pre-theatre or gallery pitstop. But with a primo seat in the front window (great for people-watching) and a Fawlty Margarita (with deep-fried basil, geddit?) from the lengthy cocktail list in hand, it's tempting to skip the culture for a bit of extended imbibing. Service can be maddeningly aloof at times and the beer list is pretty basic but there's variety in style and origin in the wines by the glass. The creative wood-fired pizzas alone are worth a visit.
