A side of roulette peppers with your ribs, ma'am? Some extra sausage gravy on your fried chicken, sir? Deep-fried Oreo cookie to finish? Sydney's romance with vernacular American food continues. Chef Gregory Llewellyn and wife Naomi Hart have strong US hospitality credentials and their tiny Newtown diner with its Friends vibe and quirky urban-rustic interior has instantly won local hearts. That's easy to understand after you've sampled the smokiest, sweetest pulled pork in town, drooled over oyster po'boys on English muffins dressed with amazin' house slaw 'n' hot sauce, and monstered a deep-fried peanut butter and banana sundae so addictive you'll be praying to Elvis as you order seconds. Sure it's casual, but this isn't careless food. don't underestimate the technical chops underpinning the bold flavours. With a constantly changing menu, three beers on tap and service that isn't slick, just informed and down-home friendly - yep, y'all, we just luuurve Hartsyard.
