Hutong Dumpling Bar

Chinese$$

At Hutong, a legion of fans speak with one voice: xiao long bao, please. Nibbling into these pork-filled dumplings and sucking out the broth is one of the joys of Hutong; so too is watching the pleated little pouches being made through the kitchen window if you find yourself at a ground-floor table. There are two other, more elegant, levels to dine in, and a menu that travels from Shanghai street food to spicy Sichuan specialities. Dumplings and spring rolls jostle with claypots, noodles challenge crispy chicken, but XLB reign supreme on almost every table (runner-up: slippery Sichuan-style pork wontons in fiery red chilli oil). Also in Prahran.
