Japanese

Skip the newer Galeries food-court version and head to the light-filled original upstairs; it's a well-oiled machine, with switched-on, black-clad staff delivering starters such as delicate beef tataki, grilled eel and deep-fried fish cakes. The setting may be a little utilitarian but there's more soul in the deep bowls of ramen - perhaps tan tan-men with minced pork, egg and choy sum or karaage ramen with fried chicken. If rice is your thing there's oodles of choice; try the salmon don (sushi rice with salmon sashimi, cucumber and seaweed) or ebi-don (crumbed deep-fried prawn cooked in egg). Also at Bondi Junction.
