Italian

It could be the perfect, foldable pizza bases or the efficient, Italian-accented waiters that make this a well-loved stayer on the Paddington dining scene. There's an outdoor bar to wait at on busy nights and a big screen TV to cheer on Italia. Candles inside - where it's sophisticated enough for a date night - and plenty of space outside for families to spread out. Many find it hard to go past excellent pizza offerings such as bresaola (often cured in house), mozzarella, rocket and truffle oil. Those who do are rewarded with melt-on-the-tongue beef carpaccio, shaved paper-thin by the handsome Swedlinghaus slicer, finished with a dusting of quality parmesan. Golden, crunchy eggplant involtini are delightfully oozy inside with a cherry tomato sauce providing a sweet kick. Pillowy discs of fried apple and a punchy fennel and tomato salad lift a rich main of thyme-studded porchetta. Have a piece of dessert pizza to finish or try the very good tiramisu - the mascarpone is flown fresh from Italy.
