Ithaka Kafeneion

Based on a kafeneion (coffeehouse), and zaharoplasteion (pastry/cakeshop), this proudly modern Greek cafe serves traditional pastries and snacks out of a tiny corner tucked in a laneway away from the bustle of Kings Cross. Service is exceptionally friendly, which made up for a disappointing espresso ($3) - served too hot and underextracted. A caffe latte fares better, softening some of the bitter character of the espresso. Traditional Greek offerings shine - the glyka (Greek sweets) are recommended, and there is even banana bread there for when you're not feeling particularly Greek.
