Jambo Jambo

Jambo is Swahili for ‘hello’ and it’s a greeting host Joseph Bekele delivers with such sincere warmth customers feel as if they’re family. The crowd’s a mix of in-the-know expats and first-timers to Ethiopian food who get an insightful run-down. Injera flatbread is tangy and spongy; key wot is a tender beef stew cooked with berbere, an Ethiopian spice mix; and doro alicha is a mild chicken stew. African music, Joseph’s buzzy energy and a small space in the bold colours of the Ethiopian flag create a rollicking scene. End with coffee from beans ‘roasted’ in a frying pan and brewed to order.
