12.5/20

Nobody does excess quite like our American cousins, and at this faithful reproduction of a New Orleans diner you'll find excess aplenty: fat burgers, barbecued pork ribs and fried chicken (served on a Belgian waffle and drizzled with maple syrup, no less). Fans of Happy Days will love the fit-out, with its cosy booths, retro posters and waitresses - improbably named Mary-Ann and Mary-Jane - in their candy floss-pink uniforms. Four jumbo 'shrimp dogs' wrapped in a thick, cornmeal batter arrive stacked on a platter with a small fried prawn salad with a gloopy buttermilk dressing. The burgers are reliably gargantuan and served with sweet potato fries. Crunchy soft-shell crab is dressed with remoulade, while grilled pork belly comes paired with Boston baked beans. Desserts are suitably excessive, as in a banana cream pie with lashings of whipped cream. And if that's not enough, there's always root beer, Coke floats or a 'bottomless cup' of coffee to wash it all down.
