John Gorilla

From the yarn-bombed bike racks out front, to the multicoloured wooden rulers lining the coffee counter and the brightly coloured floral arrangements on the communal table inside, John Gorilla is one good-looking kid. Locals beeline for coconut pancakes with rosemary-grilled pineapple and vanilla mascarpone; and ‘Big John’s breakfast’, consisting of black pudding, bacon, tomato and salsa verde. Lunches are a laid-back, salad-and-sandwich affair. While a chimchurri chicken and quinoa salad might have more texture than it does flavour, you’ll go ape over a braised beef brisket sandwich, with cheddar.
