The cafe nestled at the foot of the City Library is perfect for bookworms, newspaper browsers or laptop carriers searching for a cosy corner. Encyclopaedias and old copies of National Geographic line dark-wood shelves suspended over communal tables. If only knowledge could be gained through osmosis, you could increase your IQ here over a coffee. There's a simple chalkboard menu of big salads, bruschetta and sandwiches, with little pastries, gelato or granita to finish. The coffee ($3.60), like much of the menu, is Italian: strong, creamy and with a long aftertaste. Cash only.
