Despite its slightly faded interior, it's easy to understand the popularity of this Neutral Bay Japanese early-adopter with the dual personality. The extensive menu doesn't seem to change much, but why tinker with a winning formula? Decide whether to sit up at the grill in Jugemu - the restaurant's teppanyaki section; or slurp your way through Shimbashi - where soba (buckwheat) noodles are a daily-made speciality, served both hot and cold. Either way, you're in for a treat. Fresh-as-it-comes sushi and sashimi are well crafted, and there's even sushi made with soba noodles (instead of rice), which takes longer to make but is well worth the wait. Agedashi tofu is a standard, but served with a particularly flavoursome broth. Japanese pancake (okonomiyaki) comes with a choice of 10 toppings, including more-ishly good pork and prawn. No wonder Jugemu & Shimbashi is still going strong. It's definitely a stayer in Neutral Bay's ever-growing Tokyo Town.
