Katsu Yachiyo

With mood lighting and a scribbly blackboard wall menu, this shoebox izakaya is fit for a cosy night out. Start with the stunning sashimi plate, a perfect counter to the heavenly bread-crumbed, deep-fry fest to come (katsu, as the name suggests, is the speciality). The croquettes are creamy and porky, while the golden prawn katsu is a party in the mouth paired with a sip of sake. Although the chicken katsu is on the thin side, and the menu strangely lacks Japan’s standard pork katsu, the sushi options are diverse and service is fluid. House-made macarons are a divine finish to a sake-swilling night out.
