Malaysian$$

Its location in a suburban mall and its sparse hotel-dining-room vibe mightn't excite, but its authentic Malaysian food makes Kuali great for all occasions. Eating well and cheaply is easy: start with a fantastic version of otak otak, a mousse of Spanish mackerel punchy with chilli, wrapped in banana leaves and steamed, and continue with succulent Hainanese chicken. Feeling flush? Order the spectacular mud crab, prepared with ginger and shallots, curry or chilli sauce (it's market price - a large crab should set you back about $85). Be warned - you'll need the bibs and handtowels provided.
