Malaysian$$

This inviting room of stone-faced walls and well-spaced tables is equally suited to a casual bite or a celebratory meal. Engaged, efficient staff deliver a good cross-section of Malaysian standards plus less familiar dishes. Beef rendang has complex flavours and a sneaky, satisfying afterburn. The noodles in the char kway teoh were perhaps a little soft, but the smoky, not-too-sweet sauce and plump prawns compensate, while salt-and-pepper eggplant is crisp and well spiced. Generous serves mean a pandan pancake and ice-cream flavoured with infamous durian will feed two daring diners.
