Japanese

Sitting somewhat incongruously in a sea of Cantonese restaurants, Chinatown’s Kura dishes up cheap and cheerful Japanese food to its hordes of regular student and office-worker customers. You may have to queue for a stool in the teeny diner but there’s nothing else undersized about the place. The lengthy menu offers a range of generous dishes, from made-on-the-spot sushi to noodles, curries and tempura. Keep an eye out for the lunchtime specials and you may be lucky enough to score a deep bowl of spicy chilli beef with a soft poached egg and rice.
