Kyushu

Japanese$$

There’s no fancy decor at this unpretentious eatery on the Grosvenor eat-strip, but these guys have been turning out hearty, uncomplicated Japanese for more than 25 years and still pack in crowds nightly. Value is the name of the game, with entrees seeing change from a tenner, mains under 20 bucks and cheerfully efficient staff. Pillows of agedashi tofu swim in salty-sweet broth, crisp gyoza exhale ginger and cool edamame disappear quickly. There’s plenty of teriyaki and servings are big, so bring your appetite and wash it down with sparkling sake. Duos can order the sukinabe sukiyaki hotpot for two and DIY.
