La Parrillada

South American$$

The neighbouring bridal shops of Parramatta Road, the 'Charcoal Steakhouse' signage and the ugly sliding door belie the cosy South America sanctuary within. And with the Peruvian decor you get the impression you're entering proprietor Jose Cruz's home, save for the decanter-crammed bar. Meat is served on sizzling tabletop barbecues, ranging from lamb and steak cuts to a 1.5-kilogram, feeds-two mixed grill ($59.90, La Parrillada itself). Tuesday to Thursday delivers a $23 all-you-can-eat feast of succulent beef and pork ribs, chicken halves and chorizo. It's all cooked to order, so ensure you eat up to avoid Peruvian ire. The dessert menu is meagre, as is the wine list, but it's all about the meat.
