The QVB’s dusty pastel pastiche has a bustling brown and yellow pocket holding a fixture destined to reign as long as Queen Victoria herself. Laksa House has long had business types descending from their lofty towers for street food like nasi lemak – boiled egg and ikan bilis (anchovy) with sambal, wrapped in banana leaf and cling-wrap to infuse beautifully with the coconut rice below. By contrast the Friday special assam (tamarind) laksa is like a kick to the head. Clear, fragrant seafood broth is sour and hot, matched with coriander, mint, pineapple and pieces of deep-fried fish.
