Contemporary

The blank red front door is nothing if not intriguing. Inside, the large, airy space buzzes with patrons on one side and chocolate-making machinery on the other: try a hot chocolate to see how seriously Monsieur takes his cocoa. Equal care shows in the French-inspired menu. A croque-monsieur is gooey with gruyere and mustard bechamel and comes with cornichons on the side. Kids' pancakes with banana and vanilla yoghurt are generously drizzled with honey, and blackboard specials, such as sauteed mushrooms with Meredith goat's cheese and buttery spinach, change regularly.
