It feels like a comfortable French living room with its chandeliers, floor-length curtains and art on the walls and, on a weekend evening in particular, boisterous dinner guests. And what's not to like about a Mediterranean-accented menu that's both homely and generously proportioned? Start with an entree of braised wagyu brisket; rich and tender, served in a dinky little copper pot on a slate, with a smear of vivid pureed carrot and silky potato mash. Or if you're saving room for dessert (which is wise) something lighter such as Persian fetta-stuffed zucchini flowers with a light tempura batter home-made tomato relish and micro-herbs. A main of duck atop a tangle of cabbage with fine pieces of smoky speck is cooked to rosy pink, the richness of the meat cut through with sour cherries, while quail breasts come with an intensely earthy porcini risotto. A petit raspberry souffle perhaps? Or panna cotta with rose water granita, rose petals and basil. Or just skip the decision making altogether and take the easy 'dessert' assiette option.
