Mad Spuds

British

The humble potato is restored to its rightful place as king of the vegetables at this funky Crown Street joint, where the somewhat odd combo of spud-centric dishes, strong coffee and chirpy service works a treat. There's a certain rustic charm here, care of a wall of Irish-themed postcards, lived-on floorboards and cute vintage advertising prints. There are traditional baked spuds with all manner of toppings, but more interesting are the potato nachos (a hearty twist on the classic) and the potato stack, a flavour explosion with grilled haloumi, mint yoghurt, sweet potato mash and a crispy hash brown. Lighter but still generous spud-free dishes include a Moroccan chicken salad with giant pearls of cous cous.
