Mado

Turkish

Fold yourself into a comfy booth at the rear of this Aladdin's cave and get ready to feast Ottoman style. Scoop up technicolour dips with warm Turkish bread, then tuck into maras kebab, a tasty mess of lamb with crunchy bread cubes soaking up the juices, or ali nazik, lamb mince with a yoghurty eggplant sauce. Ayran, the salty yoghurt beverage, makes an authentic accompaniment, but sweet-tooths can wash everything down with Turkish lemonade. Whatever you do, don't skip dessert: add a scoop of stretchy maras ice-cream to the kazandibi (charred pudding), dusted with cinnamon and pistachio nuts, and you might think you've died and gone to the big dining room in the sky.
