Mappen

Japanese

A friendly diagram at this retro-pop canteen with Japanese vintage posters tells you to queue, select a drink and place your order for udon or soba. Unless you want the dashi soup on the side, chances are you're ordering 'splash' style, which refers to noodles in a bowl served with a splash of dashi. Ordering here is like being on a conveyer belt: you move along and add toppings of crunchy deep-fried prawns, fish sticks, kakiage and free sliced spring onions and pay up at the end. If noodles don't arouse your appetite, there's always curry rice, beef bowl and damn good rice balls.
