Masak Masak

Malaysian$$

Bursting onto Smith Street with hawker styling, faux graffiti and cute young staff (who tend to describe everything as ‘famous’), Masak Masak is a fresh take on South-East Asian cuisine. There’s a mix of flamboyant and traditional snacks: buffalo wings rub flanks with barbecue pork ribs, while grilled stingray pasted with a pungent chilli sauce contrasts with pineapple and coriander. A dude in the glasshouse at the entrance works the wok and grill; out back, slippery shiitake mushies on a mountain of vermicelli are prepped to order. Weekend brunch includes Kaya toast, with coconut jam from LuxBite.
