Mecca Espresso King Street

When a barista corrects himself by 3 grams ('I mean 48 grams of coffee in the filter, not 45'), you know you're in good hands. Not that the long queues, the buzzing team of baristas and the swag of coffee awards at the newly renovated King Street outpost of Mecca Espresso don't already tell you that. The house blend is full-bodied in a piccolo ($3.90) with a smooth, brooding finish, and there's a refined Kenyan Karagato AA filter coffee ($3.50) as well. Food is simple - poached eggs with avocado and tomato on toast, a slab of fruit loaf - but effective.
