Mileto’s

$$

Mileto’s used to be a butcher shop: the tiles and the hooks, now bearing copper pans, remain. It’s now a family-run business that started as a deli. It still sells oils and pastas, but the stars now are the plated-up dishes. There’s a welcoming, rustic atmosphere (exposed bricks and rafters, bunches of herbs, a guitar) and the food is simple and hearty: breakfasts like a ‘pig burger’; wraps; grilled haloumi burger (it comes in a basket and on ciabatta, with coleslaw); or a generous grilled chicken salad with lovely, grassy pesto. The owner sources produce from nearby Prahran market, and raids friends’ country gardens.
