Modern Australian$$
When it first hit the already-thriving North Fitzroy scene, Mitte was one of the coolest kids on the block. Since changing hands a few years back, it's found a maturity that adds depth to the experience. The menu's been tweaked with a careful eye: poached eggs in a chickpea bake has a more complex citrusy edge, and a three-cheese omelette is generously proportioned yet not too heavy. The coffee is popular with boho locals and Lycra-clad stop-ins alike, with a bitter start that slides into a pleasantly sweet key. It should be one to sing about for years to come.
