Modern Australian$$

It’s all about timing at this tight, buzzy corner cafe. Get it wrong and you’ll be sitting outside when you want in, or end up with no seat at all. A reno has smartened the black-and-white interior with more seats for the 20-somethings, raising volume levels. Hung over? Dijon mustard-spiked gypsy ham and bechamel on sourdough with melted gruyere should do the trick. Comfort food? Leek and organic chicken pie is lifted by apple, fennel, hazelnut and celery salad. Sweet tooth? How about three fat pikelets doused in warm mixed berries, maple syrup and mascarpone cheese? Service can be over-stretched but it’s friendly.
