Contemporary

With the passing traffic of business and suitcase-lugging travellers, Motion seems an appropriate name. Open to the foyer, the restaurant can't escape a hotel's transient ambience, and the slightly too-loud but decidedly neutral background music doesn't help to dispel this feel. Befitting a hotel, the modern international menu avoids the faddish and, not surprisingly, caters to wide tastes. An antipasto sharing plate features generous serves of vegetarian favourites, including a trio of very tasty house-made dips, but too little bread to dispatch it all. A request for more adds to the bill. Half-shell scallops and pork crackling provide a nice balance of flavour and contrasting texture and leads the charge into an Asian-inspired prawn and vermicelli soup. A selection of fish is offered, and steamed local snapper is cooked perfectly and again takes it cue from Asia. The dessert menu is straightforward, and could do with some tweaking to liven it up. Service is friendly and attentive as befits an international hotel restaurant.
