Good Food hat15/20

A few years down the track and this multilevel fun land is as inspired and fancy-free as ever, and the queues out the door prove its 'tude still totally suits our mood. Sometimes distracted but always amenable waiters administer this playful take on Vietnamese and Taiwanese staples. Original kitchen gangster Dan Hong may have turned his attention to the new Cantonese king, Mr Wong, but he's still got this powerhouse firing. Twice-cooked pork belly, pate and pickled vegies put a great spin on a baby banh mi, while steak tartare gets its own touch of Vietnam with fried shallots and prawn crackers. Lamb ribs are sour and sticky, lick-your-fingers sweet, while balance is restored with a salad of celery, tofu, enokis, corn flakes, white soy and vinegar. Proving the no-rules ethos never dies, finish with breakfast. Gloopy rice, new-season figs and strawberries snuggle up with cereal and burnt honey ice-cream.
