Modern Australian$$

On first impressions, the Nags Head is not unlike most Newcastle suburban pubs: charming original exterior mixed with modern decor and a menu that boasts all the favourites. But it's the variety and creativity of the dishes that makes this menu stand out. From fresh salads and fish to slow-cooked pork belly and an assortment of steaks, there is something to suit everyone. The pan-fried fish, prawn, bacon and parmesan cakes with pumpkin veloute are as tasty as they are colourful. The balsamic marinated 400-gram veal Viking cutlet melts off the bone, while chilli and garlic marinated sizzling black tiger prawns are flavoursome and filling.
